How we make a cup of tea with Sencha / Genmaicha
1 What to prepare:
* Sencha: Tea leaves 5g (0.2oz)
* Genmaicha: Tea leaves 7g (0.3oz)
- Teacup or mug and a teapot
- Boiling water (preferably filtered water)
2 How to steep Sencha and Genman-cha:
- Fill out the tea cup with 160ml (5.5oz) of boiling water so the water temperature cools down
- Since the tea leaves absorb water (about 10%), you may add a little more.
- After 15 seconds or so, it warms the tea cup while the temperature of the water drops by about 10℃ (50℉).
- Note that the temperature drops differently in winter and summer.
- Put 5g (0.2oz) for Sencha or 7g (0.3oz) for Genmaicha of the tea leaves in a kyusu-pot.
- Pour the hot water out of the teacup into the pot. The water temperature drops by another10℃ (50℉) because of the pot.
- Wait for about 30 seconds for infusion and pour the water into the teacup in 3 to 4 portions - this back and forth motion helps tea leaves mix well with the water in the pot.
- Delicious dark green tea is now ready to serve.
- Take a look at the tea leaves in the kyusu-pot. The sweet scent of tea leaves spreads throughout the face.
3 How to keep tea leaves fresh:
Unless your package is airtight, we recommend you store teas in a tea can. This is to prevent oxidation and maintain its scent.
