How we make a cup of tea with Matcha
1 What to prepare:
- Matcha powder 2g (0.7oz)
- Hot boiled water 70ml (2.5oz.), preferably filtered water
- Chasen (or a mini creamer)
- Matcha bowl (or a deep bowl with wide opening)
- Chashaku (tiny teaspoon)
2 How to make Matcha tea cup:
- First, pour hot boiling water into the bowl - keeping in mind this is to warm-up the bowl and to prevent the tea from cooling while making matcha.
- Discard the hot water from the bowl and wipe off the water with a clean cloth or paper towel - If there is water left in the bowl, the matcha powder will easily become lumpy, so be careful.
- Before the bowl cools down, put 2g(0.7oz) of matcha with a teaspoon into the bowl.
- Pour 3 oz of hot water at 194 and mix with a Chasen - be sure to use hot water. It is difficult to form creamy bubbles unless it is hot. Pour the hot water gently inside the surface so that the matcha powder does not get scattered.
- Start stirring slowly with Chasen and gradually, then stir fast to sound like “shaka-shaka” as if you are writing a letter M or W inside the bowl until the Matcha becomes a fine bubble. Continue stirring for about 30 seconds.
Note: Try NOT to press Chasen against the bottom of the bowl. At the end, pull up the Chasen vertically from the center of the bowl when the foam in the center gets thick.
3 How to keep tea leaves fresh:
Unless your package is airtight, we recommend you store teas in a tea can. This is to prevent oxidation and maintain its scent.
